Rainy Day Thursday

The day started out strong with all the campers at their fun activities and continuing to learn and gain experience in them. Slowly, as the morning went on, the sky started to get darker and darker. It seemed as if a storm was brewing. All of a sudden, it started to pour. The rain fall created many puddles everywhere which added a new element to all the activities, but the rain stopped no one. As the rain poured, campers continued to play, swim, craft, and more. A little rain doesn’t stop camp fun!

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

Wednesday, June 29th

Today looks like it is going to be a great day for activities with the sun shining and everyone full of energy! Also, this wonderful group of people have been planting flowers around the flag pole we circle around twice a day to put up and take down the flag. The flowers add a perfect amount of color to the environment at camp!DSC_0456.JPG

Wells Fargo Evening

It was announced at dinner that all campers and staff should wear long pants and running shoes. Right when that was said, one game came to mind and it has been a long lived and loved game at Camp Jorn. The name of the game is Wells Fargo.

As all the children and staff changed into the proper clothing, the excitement was building up inside us all. It was just about time for the big game, but we could not forget about singing “Camp Jorn will Shine,” as we do at the beginning of each night in the Amphitheater. We all sang and cheered, bringing us closer and enjoying our time here together.

Next in the process was receiving the face paint to determine the separate teams. Purple or green, no matter what team, it was time to go to the extreme. This game is very similar to capture the flag in that each team has to work together to sprint across the field and gain cones for their team. The more cones grabbed and ran back, the more successful the team will be.

No matter what, everyone wins because we had an amazing, fun night at Camp Jorn!

Learn why staff come to Camp Jorn

Camp has been an important part of my life for eight summers now, four of which were spent as counselor. I choose to come back to Camp Jorn each year because I love to make an impact on the kids that come here, whether it is big or small. Most of the time that impact is encouraging the campers to be themselves by embracing their differences and expressing the characteristics that make them unique. For the past couple summers I have been working in the leadership program with 13-15 year olds; an age group that commonly struggles with being themselves because they are worried about judgment from their peers. By creating a welcoming environment, every child is given the opportunity to display their true selves and I believe that is the best part about coming to camp. I too have found that I become the best version of myself while at camp because I am not afraid to show my various oddities that make me who I am. – Rachel Silverman

Hello! My name is Kris (Known around camp as Kit Kat!). I am the Program Operations Director. I have spent two summers working at another YMCA camp as a camp counselor and this is my first time here at Camp Jorn! I decided to spend another summer in the camp world because I love working with the kids every day and seeing the impact this place has on them. The memories that are made at camp can last a lifetime! I can’t wait to have an awesome summer! – Kris Bensen
